About the ForumThe forum brings together practitioners and scholars involved in teaching of music from around the world, to investigate methods and practices of teaching instrumental or vocal students in the diverse contexts of global music making; and to explore and discuss the most recent relevant research that could assist instrumental/vocal teachers.
The forum encompasses all aspects of instrumental and vocal teaching and learning that may take place in public or music schools, privately or in small groups, at home or in the community. Therefore, we pre-conference seminar may be of interest to instrumental and vocal music teachers, as well as studio or peripatetic teachers who often work independently, without much collaboration with other music educators. Presentations may focus on topics such as: methods of instruction; diversity of repertoire; the diverse needs and expectations of learners; teaching students with disabilities; teaching youngsters and adult beginners; student motivation; relationships between instructor and learner; verbal and non-verbal communication; the physiological and psychological needs of musicians; performance anxiety; stage fright; assessment; small group teaching; the role of music examinations, festivals and competitions; the all-round development of the performer; and the like. Overall, the emphasis of the Forum is on issues that have to do with “how to learn an instrument/voice” aspect of music education. The vision for the Forum is to investigate methods and practices of teaching instrumental or vocal students in the diverse contexts of global music making and to explore and discuss the most recent relevant research that could assist instrumental/vocal teachers. |
