If you know it, please share the traditional name (First Peoples’) of the land on which you live and work.
    Self-location

Those of you who submitted a proposal in response to the CMA call will remember that we asked you to provide a 50 word ‘self-location statement’ with your proposal. This is a practice we are adopting for CMA in 2022 as an elaboration on the usual ways we present ourselves at conferences, such as through institutional affiliation. We wanted to explore alternative ways of capturing how each of us come to be in this shared space, and the ways in which we are all connected. The protocol of locating oneself relationally is common to many First Nations peoples, and offered us a suitable template.

We therefore invite all CMA participants to provide the same kind of statement as part of their seminar registration, a 50-word statement locating yourself that follows (roughly) the following format: who you are, where you are now, and where you have come from.

For your statement, please don’t include your name, and use lower case for all words except for proper nouns. I.e community music, not Community Music. We will collate and visually represent this information at the conference, as an interactive display that everyone can explore, and to prompt further discussions.

If you have already provided this information as part of your conference submission, you don’t need to provide it again, unless you want to. We will use the text that accompanied your submission. However, you can take this opportunity to update or change what you wrote if you prefer. If in your original application you asked us to refer to an ISME biography or similar, please take a moment to write a 50 word statement that can be used for this visualisation project.
